Features of iBeacon Technology

iBeacon is designed for micro-navigation and micro-positioning tasks and allows you to transfer data between wireless devices. Radio transmitter acts as a lighthouse and transmits signals detected by other bluetooth-equipped devices. The detection range reaches 50-70 meters, depending on the model of the lighthouse and obstacles. The lighthouse operates autonomously from a battery that lasts from six months to three years. The smartphone or tablet itself can also act as a iBeacon device. For a network consisting of a large number of beacons, a wireless network simulator can be created to model its work.

Installing BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) beacons allows you to display PUSH notifications associated with the placement, as well as determine the client’s movement along several beacons (geofencing). This requires the development of a special mobile application for the iOS and Android platforms, which in online mode will receive all visible tags and determine the location. The application gets all the necessary information from the database and shows it to end user. Indoor location tracking ranges from a few centimeters to more than 10 meters away. Such transmitters, or beacons, neither track users’ location, nor read information from their devices. On the contrary, they transmit information to smartphones.
